Class of 2012 Top Ten

1.  Altamirano, Fernando
Fernando Altamirano is the son of Maria Beatriz Gonzalez.  While at Rubidoux High School he has been involved in the Advanced Placement program since his sophomore year.  He is also a member of the Science Club.  He has received an academic letter, has been recognized as a Fabulous Falcon, and has received recognition for maintaining a 3.5 GPA or higher for the first seven semesters at Rubidoux High School.  Fernando plans on attending the University of California, Irvine, where he plans to pursue a degree in biology and someday become a physician’s assistant.  Fernando would like to thank Ms. Buck, Rubidoux teacher, who, although she was a tough teacher, always said, “One day you will thank me,” which turned out to be true.  Fernando is inspired by his mother who means the world to him.  She is his motivation for his success and the reason behind all his goals, dreams, and aspirations.






2.  Alvarez, Manuel de Jesus
Manuel de Jesus Alvarez is the son of Norma and Edwardo Alvarez.  While at Rubidoux High School, Manuel has been involved with the Science Club, Chess Club, the Advanced Placement program, and FFA.  He has received recognition for his post as president of the Rubidoux FFA and has received academic letters as well.  Manuel has also received recognition for maintaining a 3.5 GPA or higher for the first seven semesters at Rubidoux High School.  Manuel plans on attending Cal Poly San Luis Obispo to pursue a degree in aerospace engineering in order to one day become an aerospace engineer.  Manuel is most inspired by his grandfather whom Manuel credits for influencing him to do his best and work hard to reach his goals.









3.  Guardamondo, Glenn
Glenn Guardamondo is the son of Mike and Raquel Guardamondo.  While at Rubidoux High School, Glenn has been involved with Link Crew, AVID, the Rubidoux Early College High School program, the Advanced Placement program, and has been in varsity baseball all four years.  He has received recognition for maintaining a 3.5 GPA or higher for the first seven semesters at Rubidoux High School.  He has also received athletic letters for baseball all four years, received All-League Catcher last year and was recognized in the Riverside Sport Hall of Fame for Outstanding Male Student/Athlete, the Citrus Belt Area Athletic Directors Association Outstanding Male Student/Athlete, the Mountain Valley League Scholar-Athlete Award, and the United States Marine Corps Scholastic Excellence Award.  Glenn plans to attend the University of California, Riverside, and pursue a career in biology in hopes of one day becoming a surgeon.  Glenn would like to thank Mrs. Washington, Rubidoux teacher, for always pushing him to achieve the “A.”  Glenn is most inspired by his father, Mike Guardamondo, for always telling him to push for more, never settle, and to always do what you can do today and never leave it for tomorrow.



4.  Evans, Lindsay
Lindsay is the daughter of Robert Evans and Marlo Rubic.  While at Rubidoux High School, Lindsay has been involved in FFA and Troupers (the Rubidoux High School drama ensemble).  She has received recognition for maintaining a 3.5 GPA or higher for the first seven semesters at Rubidoux High School and has received academic letters and a letter for theater.  She plans on attending Platt College to pursue a career as a veterinary tech.  Lindsay would like to thank all her teachers for inspiring her to try harder in her studies.  She would also like to thank her family who influenced her to never give up and try her best to achieve her goals.








5.  Brown, Nicholas
Nicholas Brown is the son of April and Robert Brown.  While at Rubidoux High School, Nicholas has been involved in Academic Decathlon, the Advanced Placement program, the Gay-Straight
Alliance, and has been president of the Chess Club and Science Club respectively.  He has received recognition for maintaining a 3.5 GPA or higher for the first seven semesters at Rubidoux High School and received an academic letter.  Nicholas plans on attending Cal Poly Pomona and then transferring to the Polytechnic Institute of New York University.  Nicholas plans to pursue a degree in computer hardware engineering and follow a career in computer system design and equipment manufacturing.  Nicholas would like to thank his Rubidoux AP teachers whom he says have had a profound influence over him: Mr. Greer, Mrs. Gotoski, Mrs. Arzate, Mrs. Cloward, and Mr. Krapes.  He would also like to thank his family from whom Nicholas has drawn great inspiration.





6.  Fernandez, Isela
Isela Fernandez is the daughter of Fernando and Claudia Fernandez.  While at Rubidoux High School, Isela has been involved in the Rubidoux Early College High School Program, the Rubidoux Cares Club, and the Advanced Placement program.  Isela has received recognition for serving as junior representative for the RECHS Club, received a certificate of achievement in recognition of her successful completion of her first semester of college coursework, and has been recognized for maint
aining a 3.5 GPA or higher for the first seven semesters at Rubidoux High School.  Isela plans on attending the University of California, Irvine, to pursue a degree in foods and nutrition where she hopes to someday achieve a career as a dietician and help change people’s lives.  Isela would like to thank Mr. Krapes, Rubidoux teacher, for helping her to appreciate the life she’s been given and to always feel empowered that she has the ability to make her own choices.  She would also like to thank her big brother, Valentin, for encouraging her to never give up and also thank her parents for being there for her and pushing Isela to challenge herself.




7.  Rodriguez, Mariela
Mariela Rodriguez is the daughter of Maria and Luis Rodriguez.  While at Rubidoux High School, Mariela has been involved in various volunteering opportunities through religious organizations.  She has received recognition for maintaining a 3.5 GPA or higher for the first seven semesters at Rubidoux High School, received an academic
letter, has been placed on the honor roll, received a President’s Award, and w on first place in a speech competition in the category of nature.  Mariela plans on attending Riverside Community College and then transferring to the University of California, Riverside, where she plans to pursue a career as an interpreter.  Mariela would like to thank her parents for showing her, with their example, that working hard pays off at the end.  Mariela says she is the person she is today because of the guidance and support from her parents.






8.  Aguilar Centeno, Ligia
Ligia Aguilar Centeno is the daughter of Ligia Aguilar and Carlos Aguilar Robles.  While at Rubidoux High Schoo
l, Ligia has been involved in AVID, freshmen class council, ASB, the Rubidoux Early College High School program, choir, Rubidoux Cares Club, Cheer, Link Crew, and the Advanced Placement program.  She has received recognition for volunteering her time at various events and for organizations such as the Riverside Dickens Festival, the Riverside Lunar Festival, blood drives, Operation Santa, and at Rustic Lane Elementary.  She also received 3rd place at the Jurupa Rotary Club Four Way Speech, received an ASB letter, an academic letter, and has been recognized for being in the top ten of her class all four years.  Ligia plans to attend Cal State University, Fullerton, where she plans to pursue a degree in international business and marketing.  Ligia considers her uncle, Erick, to be the most influential person in her life because it was through his struggles and his example that helped Ligia believe that she could achieve great things.




9.  Mariscal, Ana Karen
Ana Karen Mariscal is the daughter of Ana Marroquin and granddaughter of Ana Anorve.  While at Rubidoux High School, Ana has been involved in ASB, the Gay-Straight Alliance, class coun
cil, wrestling, National Honor Society, Link Crew, Cheer, the Advanced Placement program, an d she has volunteered her time to various community service projects.  She has received recognition for her community service, received an academic letter, a wrestling letter, an ASB letter, and received a Fabulous Falcon award.  Ana plans on attending Riverside Community College and transferring to a UC institution where she plans to pursue a degree in psychology.  Ana would like to thank Mr. Krapes, Rubidoux teacher, for his wise words, and also Mr. Atkins, her Rubidoux wrestling coach, for always urging her not to give up.  Ana credits her mother and grandmother, who raised her and taught her to always fight for what’s important and to be successful in everything she does.  It is with their support that Ana is the person she is today.




10.  Garcia, David
David Garcia is the son of Javier and Josefina Garcia.  While at Rubidoux High School, David has been involved in cross country, track and field, and the Advanced Placement program.  He has received the Official Army Reserve National Scholar/Athlete Award and the Mountain Valley League Scholar-Athlete Award.  He has also received recognition for maintaining a 3.5 GPA or higher for the first seven semesters at Rubidoux High School and has received a varsity cross country letter and a varsity track letter.  David plans on attending the University of California, Irvine, and pursue a degree in mechanical engineering in hopes of one day designing motor engines.  David would like to thank Mr. Krapes, Rubidoux teacher, who inspired him to become a better person and see the world in a different way.  David is most inspired by his dad who came into this country without knowing any English but through hard work became a citizen.  This is why David considers his dad the most influential person in his life.
